James L. Lewis, M.D.

Dr.Lewis received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1982. He received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985. Upon completion of a residency in internal medicine at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis in1988, Dr. Lewis relocated to Birmingham where he completed fellowship training in nephrology at UAB. He served as an instructor in medicine and assistant professor at UAB after completing his fellowship and was involved in basic science and clinical research projects pertaining to hypertension and kidney disease as well as coordinate the nephrology fellowship training program. Dr. Lewis joined Nephrology Associates in 1998. He remains active in the American Society of Nephrology and The American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.

In addition to seeing patients in the office, Dr. Lewis rounds on hospitalized patients and performs procedures on patients’ dialysis access in the vascular lab.
